Your engine manual should have winterizing instruction specific to your engine. If you don?t have a manual, click on the Don Casey Library page. There you will find two long generic articles on winterizing, one for winterizing engines and one for winterizing boats.

Always change the oil in the fall. Otherwise you leave acids inside the engine that have all winter to eat away at the engine?s interior surfaces. In the spring you should change the oil again after your first outing in the boat. Nothing does more to extend the life of an engine than clean oil.
