A
few months after purchasing a used boat, owner discovered
cracks in hull. Mako said boat had no warranty, it had been
sold as-is “scratch and
dent” to a Mako employee. Survey inspection uncovered
signs of previous repairs, cracks at transom, swim platform
and chines, also excessive hull flexing. Manufacturer later
recalled model line to correct transom defects. |

Boat crossed wake at high speed
and came down on starboard side. Entire hull side delaminated
from midships aft. Hull-deck joint separated at bow. Boat sank
almost immediately. Boat was a total loss. Police report says
owner and passengers were DUI drugs/alcohol. |

En
route to the Bahamas the forward port lights blew out because
of pressure from bow wave: boat filled w/ water & was close to sinking, electrical systems
shorted out. Wellcraft immediately shipped replacement ports
with metal frames. Electrical system hasn’t worked properly
since. |

of boat. Surveyor didn’t
see any transverse frames in accessible areas of hull interior.
Hull is extremely thin, surveyor noted light construction throughout.
He concluded that boat is not suitable for offshore use. |

On
first outing after buying used boat, owner says ride was
really rough: docking lights broke, swim platform broke at
every support, passenger seat support bent. Boat hull is “hooked.” Owner
worked with manufacturer to make extensive repairs. |

Owner
observed cracks in hull at each bulkhead, largest under engine
is 3 ft. Cracks caused by hull flexing and voids in hull.
After many repair attempts, factory added fiberglass to internal
hull “to better
spread the load,” hull was also repaired from the outside.
Cracks returned after repairs. |

inspected used boat and reported, “hull shell laminates and the hull’s
internal framing are either damaged or very poorly constructed.” He
found cracks on starboard inboard strake & cracking in
hull around same area, requires over $27,000 to repair. |
