I have not used a GPS on my 19' runabout for the past five years and have not really needed one so I don't want to rush up and drop top dollar on something that I end up not using. I mostly cruise around the bay and inlet. When I go in the ocean I'm never too far from the coast that I cannot see landfall. However in the event of an emergency I'd like to be able to obtain my coordinates to call over VHF if needed. I've seen several apps that can be downloaded to my cell phone. Are there any particular apps that are better/more reliable than others?

I use Navionics HD.. it does everything my Raymarine e80 MFD can do, and it does it better.
