Thank you,
My bilge was a mess too. Those raw water pumps can be a real pain to get to and remove. My port engine was already pulled when I bought her so my task is a little easier. Pulled my props, shafts and stuffing boxes yesterday (What a job) going to have the props redone and rebuild the stuffing boxes. I have a new flagship marine engine ready to go into the port side. Hope to be in the water and using her by December. Any pictures of your 281?
Don

Was this boat for sale in my area? (Lee county, Fort Myers, Florida) I think I saw it on Craiglist. Looked solid in the ad if it is the same boat. Nice boat. Don

It is the same boat then. I remember seeing it for sale locally and thinking what a great deal it was. Yes my stuffing boxes used cotter pins instead of a jam nut. Cant say I have seen any others like them before. My props were 13 x 11's I believe. Getting them redone locally right now to stock factory specs. Keep posting pictures of your progress. I will too. Took my shafts and props out last Sunday. The prop shop called. One prop was a 13x11 (stock size and pitch) one was a 13x12! Talk about a mismatch. Both of my shafts needed replaced and they are making them brand new for me as we speak. Should be done today or tomorrow. Rebuilding the stuffingboxes too (New Buck Algonquin hoses, packing, clamps) New cutlass bearings too. Should be a new boat by the time she hits the water Unpacked the new crate engine last night. Got all the parts together that need painted chris craft blue. Now the fun begins. Don

It has been so hot. We have worked every Sunday for 8 months on ours and talk about hot and sweaty. How do I view all of your shots? When I click on your link all I get is the transom shot. Want to see them all.

flfishing,
No "next" in the upper right corner when I click on your picture link. The storm link brings me to a facebook login page. I am sorry if I am making some mistake, but I think I am right.
Got my new Port Supply Marine crate engine uncrated Monday night. I bought it 7-8 months ago but have just left it crated up until I was ready to drop it in. Looks great. Here are some pics!

Got all of my parts that I have to reuse (starter, alternator, bellhousing, etc etc. Out of storage and all on one cart so I can get them ready to go. Getting really exited to get on the water. Don

I ordered new stuffing box hoses (Buck Algonquin 1 3/4 by 4 1/2) from Burris propeller in Cape Coral. My hoses were original from 1980 and new hose is cheap insurance from the boat sinking later on. I cleaned up the stuffing boxes last night and found my bent prop shafts were rubbing up against the stuffing box! If I had let that go it would have eaten through eventually letting much water in. Check out the pic.

I have the boxes cleaned (limeaway works great and a bench grinder). I bought new 1/4 inch PTFE packing for the stuffing boxes. Installing new cutlass bearings this weekend and the rebuilt stuffing boxes. My shafts and props should be back Monday or Tuesday. Don

Got my refurbished props, New shafts and couplers back from the prop shop today. Wow do they look good. Call me silly, but those props take my breath away when I look at them. Both props are resized to 13x11 and the shafts are brand new as well as the couplers. Coastal Propeller in Cape Coral, Florida did all of the work and it is outstanding. Cost of new shafts (1 inch diameter), couplers, props redone is around $1000, but boy will it be worth the trouble with no vibration when I hit the throttle!

Hey flfishing.
What a difference some elbow grease and bottom paint madeon your Chris, Nice work. I remember doing the same to mine and that is one messy job!
The props look too pretty to use. I think I will put them on my coffee table as art rather than put them on the boat. I am rebuilding the Sherwood pumps that came with my boat. I already rebuilt and installed the starboard pump (cleaned the housing on the bench grinder. New impeller , gaskets and o rings for the pump) Works like a charm. Let me know if you need the part #'s I used as yours should be the same. I will keep looking at your site for pics. Thanks, Don
