Is any one aware of a  significant  problem with HORIZON 7.4L ENGINES.  My mechanic said he has replaced 6 or 8 engines and that Mercruiser has provided the replacements at little or no cost.I spoke with MERCRUISER and they indicated there has been no recall and there are no more problems with the HORIZONS than any other engine.  Any info on this would be appreciated.  Thanks

I have not heard of anything- you should get more details from your mechanic.  Perhaps water reversion problems ?  The good old 454 is a very reliable engine.

Thanks very much.  That is what I thought.  Yes, he indicated that on several engines he replaced water backed into the engine.< ="">

It could be a badly done exhaust system allowing water to drain back into the engine...or perhaps too much cam overlap allowing the same thing...

There are known issues with these engines. Post to Caroline in the Q&A section and she will lead you to lots of info and articles she has written.
