You need to color match the VW to the jet ski.

If it were an old style Beetle you could just use that as your boat and leave the ski home....

I was thinking that the title was a stupid idea until I saw what was being towed. Those old VW's couldn't pull snot out of your nose.

the new ones are pretty fast tho. I drove a turbo once that was downright scary. Personally i'd never own one, not very manly.

Heh, I'm secure in my masculinity.  It's the admiral's car primarily, but I love driving it.  46 MPG, and fun to drive, with an amazing amount of interior room.  It's a diesel, so that adds a little to my man-card.

There was a guy around here who pulled a kayak with a moped using a hand truck for a trailer.  I haven't seen him for a while.  I wish I had taken a photo.

We replaced the flower vase with a PDA/phone holder.  Every car should come with a receptacle for something you'd like to add to the dash without drilling holes.

Hi,

If it is 1.9 TDI with 130 HP you can tow without any problems up to 1.600kg (hmm, imperial units = 3.500 lb). That means all bowriders up to 20'... You can go up to 2.000 kg with no problems for the car but thats not legal in EU.

Regards

Several years ago VW built a prototype for a modern "hippie van".  Just live Swamp's new bug, it was very modern yet retro at the same time.

I wish they had put it into production.  I would have bought one.

Link to VW Microbus.

And here's what the MicroBus was trying to replace, the original 'Kombi' as it was called in the mid 1950's

The Volkswagen Type 2 was the second automotive line introduced by VW. It was a van introduced in 1950, initially based on VW first model, the Type 1, also known as the "Beetle".

My first car was a 1961 VW bus.  It used to be our camper vehicle, and I always wonder if my parents considered what they were doing when they gave a teenage boy a vehicle with a pull-out bed and a fridge...

I would never attempt to tow a 20' bowrider with a Beetle. Even if the trailer had brakes. The jetski thing or a 14 ft. aluminum jon boat would be my limit. The engine may have the torque to pull it, but the physical size of the vehicle isn't what is needed to keep control in a dangerous situation or in a hilly environment.

Hmm? Is it allowed to tow that without brakes in US? Here in EU you can tow only 750 kg (1650 lb) without breaks. All heavier trailer MUST have breaks and that's not dependent of the tow vehicle... Numbers which I gave are from the papers of the car producer (VW). The max speed limit here for all kind of trailers (with or without breaks) is 80 km/h (50 mph)!
I don't know what is allowed in US but I added EU and car producer limits.

Here in the US it depends on the state you are in as they all set different regulations for pulling trailers, but anywhere here it would be very rare to see a single axle trailer of any size with brakes.

Most states require trailer brakes at 3,000 pounds.  Some are 2,000 and only one is 10,000 (crazy!).  Speed limits vary by state; in Arizona it is 75 with or without a trailer, while California has a 55 limit for trailers and 70 for everyone else (one reason I go there less often than I'd like to).

Unless you live in the country. Depending on the community you live in, I have seen some trailers practically rusted in two, trailers with no lights much less brakes, no plates, non registered trailers, tow vehicles without brakes, ect...

Hence the following sayings:

1. Here hold my beer while I do this.

2. Hey man, watch this sh!t.

3. You are gonna love this, watch me.

4. I have been doing this for years.

5. I saw my neighbor do it and he/she survived.

6. Ain't skert.

If Ted Kennedy drove a Beetle, he could have been President.

Hahaha, old and new Beetle are quite different. And if you want really good car take an Audi. That is premium brand of Volkswagen group. I will propose Q7 which is similar to US needs.  I know, it is not cheap but it is German. Don't forget about Brown (German-Hitler engineer) rocket V2, which took you to the space... Also A6 or A8 would be great if you like luxury limousine car.

In SC and a couple other states trailers are not required to be registered.  My trailer was in MD when I moved to SC and I let the MD registration expire so I needed plates to move the trailer to SC (through MD, VA and NC).  When I went to the DMV they didn't know what to do and had a conference before issuing me a "permanent" registration and plates for $110.00 or so.

When I was in US I saw similar things on the road. Maybe a little bit better but not much. Is that kind of towing big truck trailers  with pick-up allowed there? I also saw a guy with camper and after camper he towed Land Rover Freelander with special connection device. And the car was on it own wheels! I was scared when I saw that (I rented a Hyundai Accent which is not really safe car )... We drive very fast here in EU but all that kind of "ideas" are not allowed. Thanks God!

When I was stationed in Cali, I bought a jet ski in El Cajun and I was coming back from Mission bay on I5 one Sat evening and a Blazer hauling two jet skis blew by me like I was standing still and I was doing 60.  That 55 MPH law is kind of retarded, especially if you have a small one axle trailer.  In NC there is no seperate law for speed with your trailer.  However you do need to renew your registration yearly there.  Was 10 dollars, then it jumped straight to 19 dollars.

That photo looks untouched, I'm going to assume that is real.  How is that even possible?  I know there is no way he tows like that going down the highway?  Do you know this guy? Did you take this pic? Did you ask him what he was thinking?  Totally uncool right there.

I really know nothing about it. Personally having been the owner an S-10 I don't think he could have ever got it moving in the forward direction on that incline. Well maybe if he had it in low range.

That Shi& is impossible. He couldnt possible turn that heap. Look at the top of the two vehicles where they meet. No possible way to turn it without the tow vehicle slamming into the side of the Blazer. He can only go straight. God help him if he tries to go backwards.
