Many of you have read and posted to my "farewell to my boat dog" posting. While Shelby will always have a special place in our hearts and will never be truly replaced, her loss just left a huge empty & lonely spot in our lives. And then by dumb chance, this little girl came along:

It felt like Shelby was leading us in her direction and was trying to help mend our broken hearts.
So our new boat dog has arrived, a black lab born September 28th., soon to be named and soon to be aboard SeaBreeze sometime this spring.

You can't think of the new dog as a replacement, she will have her own personality, and she will earn a place in your heart, as well.
She is adorable, best wishes for her.

Congratulations on the NEW boat dog. Labs are great on boats and a lot of people we cruise with have them. Toughest job they have is keeping them out of the water. They are great dogs. Best of luck with her.

We lost our Lab 2 days ago. It hurts when you are away from home and stuff like this happens. I feel your pain.

rduhon,
We understand your pain as well and you have our deepest sympathy. We were in your shoes this past Thanksgiving.
Only pet owners can understand the feeling of losing one, they are such a giant part of your life. Always remember the love, happiness and terrific memories that your lab gave you. And although it hurts deeply, our dogs are safe and at peace now.

As soon as SeaBreeze is brought out of her winter storage rack, we will get some pictures posted of Zoey-Noel.
Have a great New Year everyone!

Well the new boat dog had her first experience on the boat this weekend......Zoey came down to the boat on Sunday and took up right were our old dog left off.
She new exactly how to get onto the boat, wore her life jacket without any fuss, spent 8 "chewless" hours aboard SeaBreeze and fell asleep in our old dog's favorite spot. Even used the "designated pet spot" at the marina.
Hope the rest of the season goes as well!

Hi Dau,
I am thrilled the new pup did so well. That strenghtens my theory that Labs are smarter than most people I know (most especially myself!)

Ha! Sounds like Zoey was being "trained" by your dog who passed last year! She will do just fine I'm sure!!!!!
Last March I had to be away from my Lil Guy for 5 weeks; my 8 yr old granddaughter took care of him----rather she spoiled him rotten!!!! He is almost back to the training point when I was hospitalized. I had to start with basics such as potty training. It's been a trying 2 months, but he does good about 90% of the time now. So with God's help, we make that last 10% soon!

What a beautiful puppy. I have walked in your shoes. We had to put down our beloved Golden after 14 years. Then we found this puppy through a neighbor. In this pic he is 1.5 years old and this is his 1st time on a boat in the lake. He now considers the boat his and goes in it with us all the time...even when we just go out to clean it

Back in Dec 07 when I replied to the OP, I never dreamed that we too
would have a dog, but while boating in the San Juans there was a dog
aboard a sailboat; he spoke to me..."Get a dog like me," he said. So we
did and Merlin has been the joy of our lives for almost a year now.

He loves the water too.

We lost our black standard almost ten years ago, took that long to bring up
enough courage to get another one. Rescued this dog about a week ago,
she is three years old and like most of her breed, extremely smart.
