Boater's Connection
Topic: Marathon Boat Owners Group
Welcome to the Marathon Boat Owners Group Forum Steve.
Truly the only one of its forum kind in the world, for Marathon Boats/Cruisers.. So you have a 1992.. From our records, 92 was last year that Marathon ever made boats.. (as we know it). It was Marathon Cruisers.
FYI: Marathon boats existed from 84-89, then Marathon Cruisers took over from 90-92.. and Marathon Cruisers became history in the boat making biz, so to speak..
So your ship should be a 92 Marathon Cruiser 2100 Express, 20.25 feet long and 96 inches (8ft) wide (at the widest point. Weighing in at approximately 3370 pounds with an empty fuel tank and without any gear or passengers.
What type of engine and outdrive do you have in your 92 Steve?
It might be hard to get the installed tank size depending on what they had available at the time - they could have put slightly varied sized tanks in.
To be sure, should take a look at your tank. The fuel tank has a capacity plate on it.. showing in US gallons capacity.. You should be able to find it on viewing the tank.
The capacity plate for the tank, should be affixed to the top of the tank (usually on a corner) toward the rear or starboard of the tank as it sits in the boat.. but you might have to take a good look at the tank to find the label.. It has capacity, where the tank was fabricated etc.
Anyways, welcome to this forum Steve.. There are lots of guys in here that know lots about everything, not just Marathons.. but they know them too, so any questions etc, please don't hesitate to throw them into the mix in the forum.. because someone will be able to help or suggest options or cures on just about everything.
Talk to you later

Welcome to the board Steve, Please stick around. Norm is right about the tank having capacity listed on it mine happens to be 48 gallon. My top cruising speed is about 35mph.

Steve, Christopher has a 1987 21' Weekender..(his tank size is 48 gallons). A very simular boat to yours.
And Christopher.. Let's clarify your true boat speed shall we? .
That would be a 35MPH (from time to time), when it's NOT loaded with piles of FISH!!.
By the way Steve, if you want to see video to prove the above, and in this forum, since Christmas, Christopher does it best in video, so to speak, here is a link to his vids on you-tube.

(Hope you don't mind the promoting of your live action videos and "stardom" Mr. Grunder but they are very kewl vids). And most of the links are now three forum pages back or so.. so we had to bring the link ahead to page 18..lol. !!)

Found a better manual for the Origo stoves
Good instructions, and Swego.com has accessories for them.

I use the Origo 3000 on the Daisy J III which is alcohol only. I love that stove it works great and cleans easy plus all stainless. It has held up great during the years of use. I used to buy special stove alcohol at the marine store (very expensive) but I have found that the hardware stores sell denatured alcohol much cheaper and it works great.

Thanks for the info Norm and Christopher! The motor is a Volvo 230 not sure on the out drive maybe a Volvo/Penta?
Thanks
Steve
Welcome to our little niche Steve. Despite all of their shenanigans, the other guys are quite harmless. I never partake in their tom foolery as I tend to be much more serious about boating and life in general.
I would be safe in saying, I think that your outdrive is a Penta. There are only few occasions when the Volvo was matched to a Mercruiser.
Again, enjoy yourself on the board.
Bob
Good one Bob

PS: It's friggin' snowing here......AGAIN!!!!!!
Thanks Bob! I have never owned anything but a outboard so outdrives are all new to me. I will have to wait a few weeks before working on the boat as I run a income tax preparation office and have no time now. Anything anyone can tell me about my boat motor and outdrive would be much appreciated!
Thank God I live in the south and only have to deal with snow maybe once a year!

You do make a "laugh" Bob.. lol.. Yes I know you are one of those sensitive types.. and would never do the shenanigan things that we do.. lol..
Steve, don't let that Bob fool you.. one of his nicknames is "Mr. Shenangian!".. One of the kings of it.. in this forum..
If there is one thing that Bob is serious about, it's boating and fishing and trains and life in general.........As long as there is a whole pile of shenangians that go along with it.. And in life and in here, most of us take pride in thinking that humor is the very best medicine... so we are very very healthy people!.

lol.. Christopher.. Get your reading glasses?.. OR you can just us <CTRL> +++ and that will increase txt size. And <CTRL> --- will reduce it..
(Found that out while trying to see Bill's 1st set of mini-pics).. I expanded them by <CTRL> +++ so I could see that there was indeed a boat involved..lol.... but on the increased size, they were fuzzy and blurred). I'm just glad that later, Griffo found the original pics on his camera and re-uploaded them in a larger format.. now they can be clearly identified polluting the lake! lol

By the way Steve.. Most of us regular M.B.O.G. forum members have been given titles (or self proclaimed) and/or have been appointed to positions.. (It’s an evolutionary process occurring over time). If you go back to the beginning and read through the posts, the title/position appoints of the members will become obvious.
So over time, the following are positions or titles held by the incumbents of this elite group:
Bob #1) Is Superintendent of Beverage Quality (and one of the founders of this group forum)
Bill #2) Is El Presidente, (and one of the founders of this group forum)
Jim #4) Is Minister of Justice and Law
Norm #7) Is Executive Director Public Relations & Administration
Christopher #10) Is Assistant Director Public Relations & Director of Video Media (Director of Video media is a New Appointment)
(Did I miss anyone who has an official title or position?
And by the way Steve “shrimper” Sorrow, you might be the #14 official Marathon boat Owner member, (if you choose to accept this assignment (and it won’t self destruct in 5 seconds)), of this elite group of Marathoners.. (and by the way, it’s the only Marathon Boat Owners Group of its’ kind in all the world).
If you choose to be our 14th Marathon Boat Owners group member, I will add you to our members and contact lists and issue a member revision a.s.a.p. to which you will be a part. But you have to accept this assignment. Can you handle a nutz but informative Marathon Boat Owners group?

I'd be right proud to be member #14 of a nutz but informative Marathon Boat Owners group.

lol...
The motion was submitted.
Any objections? ......... (I don't hear anything...)
A seconder to have shrimper? Ok I second it. too.
And he accepted.. you all saw it here.. and we have it in writing.. (So he can't turn back now!)
Motion Carried.. So your in Steve..lol... (Man that was easy eh?)
FYI: I have a couple of spreadsheets that I keep for all of us containing all our relevent info... (One version is to post on this forum (a simplistic one liner type), (Cause the forum can't handle the more complex one), and a more comprehensive one that I send out to everyone via email.. I'll start updating them to add your info and send out a new revision..
I think I have most of your info for the spreadsheet. like your name, (Steve Sorrow-right?), boat type-yup, motor/outdrive type-yup, location (South Carolina), email id-yup, a few picture links-yes ..
Oh, need your your dob.. if you aren't too sticky about admitting your age... dd/mm/yy.. (Yes we even say or sing or put out a post (when we don't forget), wishing a Happy Birthday to our guys..lol.)
And do you have an occupation and if so what do you do? Just generally, not specific, like: an auto mechanic or plumber or attourney or electrician or bank manager or teller.. or chef.. or robber, or fisherman, or casino dealer..etc.. you get the idea..
And - if you have a name for your vessel? We include that on the spreadsheet.. (It kinda personalizes our vessels)
Anyways, I'll get started updating the spreadsheets Sir Sorrow..
So welcome Steve as member #14 of the Marathon Boat Owners Group.. you just gained 13 friends and comrads in the Marathon world..(well almost 13..we do have a few AWOL members right now.. but it is the dead of winter), but regardless, a cordial welcome to you none the less..

Ok DOB 05-20-1953. I'm a incometax preparer, I sold my business about 2 years ago but still work st my old shop.
I am recently divorced after 35 years (of HELL) have a son and a daughter, my son Stephen lives in San Francisco CA hes 33. Daughter Sarah lives near Toronto shes 36, (she just moved there from Orlando Fl) shes blessed me with 2 grandsons that are my heart! I've been a commercial shrimp boat captian during the off season (May - Dec) since 1998.For the last 2 years I have been staying close to home caring for my mother who has cancer and has had a stroke(the hardest thing I have ever had to do!!!!) I live 140miles from the coast but salt water flows in my veins I dont care much for sweet water so when I have my Marathon ready to go she will only see the briny stuff. I had original bought her to convert her to a working boat but the more I looked at her and after finding this group I think I will keep her the way she is. I have no experience with cruisers but then I had never handled a 60 trawler till 1999 when the captian was fired and the shrimp were thick that boat the Seabastian was a steel hull and didnt manuver very well, but I learned with some very good friends who became family they would lie to you about where they were catching shrimp but would all but walk on water if you needed help! That I really miss.
As yet I havent come up with a name for her.
Cant wait till I have some time to work on the boat and see what I really have I bought it without ever hearing it run. But for the price $1000.00 I couldnt turn it down, the trailer is worth that much. It seems to be in good mechanical condition. Most of the wood is intact upholstry is shot and the floor has some weak areas.
Sir Sorrow
LOL
A unique group of pirates, we are. And we all share a kindred spirit. And a dream that maybe, one day, we can all get together for one big "CLINK".
Glad to have you with us.
Bob
PS: I have a name for your boat. In honor of the grandkids..
"Grandpa's Toy"
Better yet

wow Steve.. lots of action and stress..
I have two parents - both that have had strokes and more.. it is a tough time on a daily basis with them.. with no help from a totally selfish and spoiled my sister, I might add..
Then the other aspect of maritial unbliss.. very stressfull time for you, my friend.
Hey your daughter (Sarah) must be very close to me.. I'm also in "TO" Toronto (GTA- Greater Toronto Area, in the east end).. So when you visit her.. make sure you let me know.. so we can meet and do a lunch or supper and bond over a <Clink>..lol.. And if you need anyone to check up on what she's doing, I'm your man.. I can do a little PI work on the side for you..lol..
Shrimper, you sure got a good price for your boat.. just think of all the money your saved buying it.. that you can put into to repairing and bringing her back to lfe again.. back into tip top shape.. I paid 8 times more for my boat..but it is in very good shape so I don't have too much to do on it except an exhaust baffle. and a few misc things that I want to do..
BoB. getting your snow today...It started @ 04:00. I just arrived at to work (back on day shift), and already there is 3" on the ground and another, they say, foot will accumulate by 4pm.. arg.. so much for a good day in the railway industry!!.
Ok, got to start work.. later gentlemen and have a good day.

Been away for two days and you all get verbal Diarrhoea!!
I've had relatives over from England and the old keyboard
was well out of bounds.
OK, quite a few questions to answer and posts to reply to.
Tracy - my new wheel is 400mm which to you guys is 15 3/4"
I don't have blueprints for the dash, but I have drawings
of how I designed it and all the circuit diagrams for how I
wired it.
Norm, I got the wheel from International Marine Supplies, they
were the cheapest I could find anywhere for a Stainless wheel.
imsupplies.co.uk
Christopher, The new dash doesn't hamper vision, it was crap
before if you were seated. As Bob rightly says I'm a stander-upper
at the helm, I like an unimpeded 360 degree view when I'm at sea.
Bob, haven't suffered with my hemorrhoids for quite some years now,
they've settled down.
Christopher, love the bike, I have a Honda but not an old one like you,
mine is a CBR600
Steve - Welcome to the forum - member no.14. Have you read the backposts,
if so you will know that we are designing a 'club' flag to fly on our boats
I presume as a fully fledged member that you will be interested? ( If our PR
, administration, membership secretary etc etc ever gets his finger out )
Steve, if you don't find a label on your fuel tank, measure the height, width
and depth and calculate it with some simple maths.
Glad to here that you are going to cruise your Marathon instead of converting
it into a work boat - let's keep these old ladies alive.
Your cruising speed is dependant on a lot of factors, all up weight, reduction
in the outdrive, size and pitch of propellor and the amount of trim you apply
with the flaps. If you don't have flaps, get some! They make a tremendous
difference as the Marathon is a planing hull.
By the way the rest of you guys, Steve is a commercial captain! Does this mean
that we should bestow on him the title of 'Training Officer'?
Christopher, how could anybody relieve you of the title of *Star Of Clink*
most of the photos and videos we see of you, you are either pouring a drink
or knocking one back!! Good on you buddy, a man after my own heart!!!
Well! What a lot of waffle that was, my poor old fingers are tired now.
Speak to you later buddies.

Hi Everyone! It's been quite a while since my last post, and I have been following what's been going on here. You all are full of fun and games, huh? Anyway, I have a suggestion: I think it would be great if we could break this forum out into sub-sections. For example, we could start a new section based on the boats we have. Another section for technical questions and answers. Maybe a few sections based on power plants / outdrives. I know it's not as much fun, but I really think the combined knowledge of this group, if made more readily available, could help people tremendously. I know it would have helped me 2 years ago, as I had to replace my engine and outdrive, with no help, except for a crappy Seloc manual. Comments? Ideas?
Switlikbob (Bob N.) This I believe is the ultimate vision of the MBOG. But first, it is good to know you are still an active member and hope you participate more. The idea of subdivisions would defiantly make it easier to follow problems, interests, and topics discussed. Remember we are on the Boaters connection thread and I truly believe that is exactly what is happing here. Pervious discussion on this exact issue has been addressed. The outcome was that if we could reach a certain number of active members and (let me add honorary members) we would look into starting our own website. As for now, it was determined that staying on one thread we will have the most exposure to Marathon boat owners. Point in case: if you google Marathon Boats you will find many links to this thread. I must say that is just my opinion and this should be up for further discussion.

To all,
Through this thread we can communicate with all and all can communicate with one. Besides every one seems to enjoy our banter and if nothing else we have brought diversion from the vagaries of life for some and a lot of smiles and laughs to all. Even if we did start our own website, it would still be nice to continue this thread if for no other reason than to bring enjoyment to some lurkers.

Bob first and foremost.. welcome back.. Like where the heck have you been hiding???. Like Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, n Stuff… And if you had a birthday, Happy Birthday too!!!.
Secondly to your post.. In my humble opinion, I agree with Sir Grunder.. splitting up the forum would be detrimental for what members we do have participating on this forum.
Since we only have 14 members.. and out of those 14, only half are participating.. (the rest have been AWOL.. some for a long time), I don't think it would be very good to try to split up 6 or 7 members by their boat model into separate groups?
At least the 6 or 7 participating members.. regardless of marathon boat model, all have various things in common, like the engines, out-drive, the maintenance of same, helms/dashes, fridges/icebox, v-berths, improvements, modifications.. helping each other figure out stuff..etc etc…with only minor variations.
There is not a lot of
Until such time that we might have 40-50 members and the forum gets too hard to handle or to keep track of the members.. maybe then it may be necessary to do something else instead of this one forum.. or even get our own website.. but we’re not even close to something like that.
If there were hundreds of
Saying all the above, a cordial welcome back Bob.. We now have 7 or so members involved in this forum hopefully including yourself.

Norm thanks for the invite when I get to Toronto I'll raise a glass ****CLINK**** with you!
Bill yes I would be interested in a flag. I'll have to see about getting some trim tabs as my lady does not have them. The prop is badly damaged and will have to be reworked or replaced, more than likely I will replace it with SS.
Its been crazy here today check back later.
Norm hows the snow today? Its 65 here today and a little damp! lol
Sir Sorrow
Bill, glad to hear that you do not have to nurse those PITA's (pains in the arse)any longer. Or is it that you are so old that the tissue on that part of your anatomy has dried up more that the rest of you? Just a thought.
Chris, maybe we should make you activities director(fishing, biking, drinking, and the pastime of girl watching without getting caught gawking). It seems to be a perfect fit. And of course you secondary duties would include being media director also. We shall nickname you "Clinkstar". I am glad we share our taste in bourbon. Aahh, that hit the spot. Oops, "clink" almost forgot.
By the way, I have a 1958 Harley sitting in "baskets" in the shop. I bought it from a buddy that rebuilds Harley's for a living. I used to have a couple of Harleys, and he had been after me to gt another. He sold me this one for a song($400) and offered to come over and help me put it together. That was 5 years ago. Every time he comes over, we end up drinking a case of beer and never turn a wrench. Priorities keep getting in the way, ya know. Maybe I'll start that project after the Marathon gets done.
But, I am looking for a 1956-ish pickup/station wagon to tow my Chris Craft. I'd LOVE to find an old 1956 Chevy Nomad, that would be EXCELLENT!! I don't want to mortgage myself for one though. As some may know, I found my granddad's old barrel-back(River Rat). The rehab on it was pretty simple. Revarnish the hull, and replace some of the hardware. I chose to have all of the original components rechromed. Total time on that boat was less than one month. The engine has just been rebuilt. The Admiral actually did most of he work of revarnishing. I ran the belt sander and applied the stripper. Everthing, and I mean everything, else was in superb shape. We now take it to "boat" shows and boat parades in the summer. Much like the car/street rod shows many of us are familiar with in fair weather. We have won four trophies with it. I guess I have more money than sense(cents). Hell, I'm think I'm starting my own fleet here. The Admiral wants a 'toon, too. She says she will then have her boat. I'm looking for a 24-footer for her. See, a friggin' fleet, I tell ya!!! Thank goodness we have a large pole barn. AND I just got a 20-foot Glastron tri-hull open bow, deck boat given to me for towing it out of a fella's yard. Needs A LOT of work. Gonna sell that one when finished. Or give it to the daughter's family. The grandkids would love it.
As far as adding sub-forums to this board..... While I think it has its merits, there are other boards on the site that deal with such mechanical and informational subjects. All similar power plants and out drives are the same as on our boats. Such information is universal. It would only clutter the site. Just my $.02. I enjoy the banter as much as I do the information that is passed along.
Steve, you may be happy to know that you are of the same vintage as Bill and I. Bill is referred to, lovingly, of course, as the Hienz Guy. At 57 you can see why. I am 56, just 11 months older than you, Jan-Dec, '53. I will have a few questions for you, as I am wanting to receive my Captian's license also. I would hope to use it to pilot boats to the new owners that purchase a boat on the Great Lakes to their final desitination elsewhere.
Anyway for now, and as always, may the sun shine on your faces, the seas be calm, the winds fair, and may the Witch of the Water stay far behind in your wake.

Hello All
After being routed to different forums it seems that I finally made it here, thanks Norm for the link . I have made a few post on other forums that I thought was this one , but I have a 1987 2550 Marathon Cruiser it seems to be in great shape , this is my first boat so I don't know how to operate stove, frige, toilet ect. so I need help with those things. I only took her out once before I had to put her away for the winter, the motor runs great it is so quiet that you can hardly hear it running in the water , I was only able to go about 8 knots I think it was due to the fact that i forgot to lower my out drive I did not realize this until I had put her back on the trailer , I have some pics that I would like to post if someone could tell me how. My boat was said to only have 300 hours of use on it and only two owners before me so I don't think I will have to do much to it I just need to know how to operate everything and to fill water storage tank . It has the chevy 305 with OMC cobra out drive an 100 gal fuel tank. thanks in advance for any info you guys can give me .
