Forgive a small departure from a boating forum...
After many years of faithful service my '97 F250 was no longer capable of dependably towing my boat long distances. I finally traded the old Ford for a new Dodge 3500 (quad cab, 4x4, 3.42 axles, 6-speed manual). WOW! I can't believe the difference! The new Dodge is FAR more capable as a tow vehicle. This rig tows so easily that going to lakes 2-3 hours away sounds like fun (instead of sounding like a huge chore).
I don't have any connection with Dodge (except as a customer). I wanted a new Ford, but they couldn't find one with a manual transmission.

Nice truck, looks like the Cummins. I wish I had gotten the long bed in
mine, only thing I would have changed since I purchased it new in '05.
The Fords are great trucks but the diesels are extremely troublesome so if
that is what you were after, be glad you did not find one. My sources
say the V-10 is the one to get. Most likely the Ford will be worth more
down the road but I bet you paid considerably less for the Dodge.

Thanks Don. That truck does have the Cummins 6.7 diesel. Dodge doesn't even offer a gas engine in that truck. My old Ford was a diesel, but I understand that the 7.3 Powerstroke (which I had) was a much better engine than the 6.0 or the current 6.4. Even so, I would have tried a Ford if could have found one with a standard transmission.
OTOH...The Dodge was about $10k less than a comparable Ford or Chevy. The Cummins engine has so much towing power it's amazing. I went to a 1-ton and it feels far more stable towing than my old F250. I'm not much worried about residual value. I'll probably drive it for 10 years or until it's completely worn out.

Nice truck, sounds like you're surprised at the power of the Cummins. I have had my 99 for 7 years. It has 311k on it now and it is still going strong. I also have the manual trans. I would buy another one of these trucks in a heartbeat.

You'll love that truck...I have an 07 Silverado dually with the Duramax/Allison combo and drag a 14k 5th wheel around very easily.

If you notice the Silverton in my signature, the Dodge dragged that around
as well.
