I really want to keep our new boat.. I really do.  But my husband is in the coast guard and gone all summer.. and we just moved here (Chesapeake VA area) and I know zero boaters, i have our 27 ft Larson in storage.. It just seems like its going to collect dust.  Is there anyone in the area that has connections or ideas of where I can store it or dock it.. affordably.. for a military family?    Help!

Check the  military bases in the area, most, if not all, have storage facilities and will know the answers to your questions.  Check ALL services, not just the CG.

Brookesfiasco,  I am about to purchase a 23-26ft cruiser and am possibly getting PCSed out that way shortly for a critical fill.  When is your husband's and your PCS depart date?

We just moved here in June, we're planning on homesteading here.  I actually put the boat up for sale but its not selling so who knows what will happen, its so nice we're not willing to sell it for less than what its worth.  I do know we need to get it in the water, tune up..etc.. i mean we have it why not enjoy it right?? Where are you pcs to? What's your rate? :) Nice to meet ya!< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

Sorry, got caught up in the sale/purchase.  I am an O-2 and possibly looking at moving to OPCOM.  We'll see when/if it happens, should have been right about now though....  Are there any good freshwater lakes around or is your boat a saltwater boat?  I have always been a freshwater boat and cringe at the thought of salt (other than on the road) but guess I will need to warm up to it in my career

We bought our boat in NJ last year and haven't taken it out this summer.. which is crappy. But my husband was gone all summer.  Now we're considering selling.. whether we do or not ..we'll see. The economy sucks right now for selling anything! It's such a great boat though!  We'll see what happens.  Sorry I don't have much info on the area since we just moved here a few months ago. We live in Suffolk and there are a few lakes here but I think its mostly saltwater, we were really looking forward to getting out on the Chesapeake Bay.  I did get an email from someone with a list of all the military friendly marinas in the area if you're interested. :) Congrats on your purchase.  :)< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

Why don't you find a cheap marina, keep it there and take it out yourself.  There is no better place to make good friends than on a dock.

I see a lot of women boating alone with kids now days. If you keep it in a marina it would avoid the hassle of trying to load it on the trailer everytime you want to use it which is impossible for you to do by yourself. When it's in the marina, its always ready to use. Looks like a nice boat. I am pretty sure there is a military marina in your area. I know they have them around other military bases that are not nearly as large as Norfolk. I know some folks where were retired Navy and cruised the East Coast. They had a list of military marinas and often stayed in one as they traveled around, even though they were no longer active.
