It's now mid July. I already have all my "stuff" ready for if and when a storm should pop up this season.
We have PLENTY of cans/bottles/bags of food and drink onboard.
I have around 40 of each D batteries, AA batteries. At last count we had 8 flashlights. 3 vhf radios, two weather alert radios......
The generator has had the oil changed, radiator fluids changed, impeller for the raw water changed, fuel filter changed.
Have both fuel tanks full of fresh diesel.....(400 gals)
All 4 anchors are ready with plenty of rode and chain if we need to leave our protected marina...
"Overkill?" One can never have overkill.
I was born in S. Fla and never lived outside the state... But I have been thru more storms than I care to plus have been a telephone repairman since 1969 so have been sent to work after every major storm since Camelle hit in 1969, was sent to Miami after Andrew hit, Floyd in S.C. up to last year's Ike... and dozens in between.
Untill you've seen coastal freighters 2 miles inland after a storm, seen dozens of places where houses "use to be" you don't realize what force mother nature can hit you with.
Even if you don't live on a boat like we do, start buying a few "extra" things every time you go to the store.... Dinty Moore's can meats are really very good.....
