How many of you use Facebook and/or Twitter?

What do you like and dislike about them?

Have you seen the BoatUS pages on Facebook and Twitter?  If so, what do you like and dislike about them?

I will most likely not use it, I don't Facebook, Twitter, Etc. but I know it is popular with a large group of people who will probably use it.

I use Facebook to stay in touch with friends.  I have not seen Boat US on there, and it was not recommended to me, though I have been recommended other boating and diving connections.  I'll go look for it now.

That's weird, I tried it, Boat US (with a space between t and U) and it worked.  I think they had to do the space because they had to fill out a first name and last name.  That's got to make it harder to find.  Hmmm, I'll have to see what I can do about that.

Meanwhile, those of you that can find it, I'd be interested in knowing what you'd like to see on our Facebook pages.

Feel free to post your thoughts or email me directly at tparrow@BoatUS.com

Interesting, if I do NOT use the space, it finds you.  If I do use the space, it does not.  Here's a PDF showing my search and results:

I must be the wrong generation! Facebook seems to be mostly a way to fill time for most with little value. The only reason I use it is because my daughter in law post pictures of my granddaughter on it and who can resist that! Twitter held my attention for all of one day! s

Terry, my results were you must omit the space between Boat & US. to end up on the right site., like Swamp. Just started going onto facebook some, lots of bs it seems.

Other than being trendy, creating identities for Boat US on social networking sites is of little value.

instead, why not...

create a super duper Wind, Waves, Weather web page on the BoatUS website that all boaters would be drawn to use due to its excellence of execution, ease of use, and completeness of information.

Facebook has allowed me to reconnect with old friends and stay in touch with friends who are all over the world.  It's a tool, and it's also a reflection of your friends and relationships.  If there's a lot of crap in your FB page, it's because your friends post that crap.  You can drop them or even just not display their stuff, that's all configurable.

Likewise FB lets me stay in touch with interesting things from companies and groups.  However the value is only there if they are posting relevant, important, and/or useful stuff and not too much of it.  I'd like to see alerts on legislation or issues that affect boaters, for example.

In short, FB is what you and your friends/groups make of it.

I use it quite a bit to keep in touch with friends, both old and new.  I just found the BoatUS group and joined.  I don't see the need for it, really, except to promote this site.

I went to college 1976-1980 and Facebook has put me back in touch with about 6 other alumni that are using facebook.  It's a wonderful idea whoever came up with it.

If you have kids you should be on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and anything else you can find...because your kids are. You'll be amazed at the things your kids message to their friends thinking you can't find out.

on a recent evening with Tom Petty's Full Moon Fever coming from 6 speakers and all sails pulling,

we broad reached across the bay in 15 knots of warm wind watching the sun go down in the west.

not connected, not twittered, not faced off,

what a lovely peaceful night.
