I'm planning on heading out there for a weekend in a few weeks. I've got a place to camp/dock that I think I'm going to use but I was wondering if anyone had any tips, pointer, things to avoid, or things that are a must see out there?

Gets pretty busy and choppy on the weekends.

Yeah, I figured that but it probably isn't worse than where I normally go (Greenwood Lake) since my regular spot is only 45 miles from Manhattan. The good thing is that we aren't going until the last weekend in September so it'll be chilly but it should be less crowded. Any areas I should avoid? We have a couple of spots here in Greenwood Lake that I know to avoid.

Sorry, I don't know the lake all that well, I've only been there a couple of times. Go over to BoatingABC.com and post, There's a guy called Memory Maker that goes there every weekend.
